The Uimon ValleyFirst Russian settlers here were the old-believers, fugitive workmen. Here, from all parts of Russia, came rushing the people that were looking for Belovodye (”The Place of White Water”). To each other, they narrated tales told of old: ”in the place of Belovodye cakes grow on trees, rivers are full with honey and milk, and there are no offences, persecutions, or grief”. People fled here from bondage and persecutions of belief.
Special routes of walking trips to Belovodye were made, and those were being told of to one another. ”Belovodye will be open only to those who is of the cleanest soul,” it was spoken. It was certainly told that ”people approached such a place, but it did not become open to them; there came a white fog, and though the river was not wide, it still remained impossible to cross; some voices were heard over it, and the noise of cocks and the cows, but still place was inaccessible for people with black souls”.
Nevertheless, from the heights of to day’s knowledge, let us not gibe at this way of human thinking and talking. Throughout all the ages, every nation used to have and still has many legends of that kind. Europeans believe in the existing of Graal’s Brotherhood; Asian peoples know that Shabistan, Kalapa, Tebu (the Mountain Meru) exists. The Buddhists call it Shambhala. Well, it obviously seems that the mankind can’t exist without some Spiritual Affection
